What Customers Say About Antec MX-1 USB/e-SATA 3.5-Inch Hard Drive Enclosure:

The first was a Samsung HD103UJ, 1000GB/7200rpm/32M. I experienced the same result as S. Feld (timerider), who also rated the case with one star.I tried two different HDD. The second was a Western Digital WD10EADS, 1000GB/SATA/32M, which just arrived from Amazon. I had the same results with both. The case goes back to Amazon.

Everything I read about this enclosure sounds good, but I don't understand this specification: "Up to 750 GB 3.5-inch SATA hard disk drive". One review said a 1TB drive was used. Why do the specs limit the size of drive.

The HDD did not click or hum unusually, but would not be recognized by the computer any longer. The aluminum body is well made and the HDD is nicely cushioned by internal vibration damping material. I bought this enclosure not sure if I needed or wanted to spend the extra money for the cooling system provided with this enclosure. The HDD spun up and has been working fine since. The Antec MX-1 comes with all needed hardware even a e-sata cable is included. I bought this enclosure to give my 320GB WD external HDD a new home. The external look of the drive is very pleasing aswell.

The nice Blue LED indicator light reflects off the surface the enclosure is resting on if it is horizontal. I have only had WD (Western Digital) external HDD that use passive cooling that has seem to work fine until my 320GB WD My Book Premium stop working one day. I have another 320GB WD My Book that uses passive cooling (no fan for cooling) that is actually louder than the Antec MX-1 when it spins up which indicates to me that the Antec MX-1 External HDD Enclosure is very well made and utilizes the dampening material perfectly. I gutted the 320GB My Book Premium and inserted the 320GB HDD into the Antec MX-1, voila, it recognized it instantly. The Antec MX-1 is ultra quiet to use an active cooling system (fan to blow air). A vertical holder comes with the enclosure if a vertical position is desired. I highly recommend this item to anyone that needs a enclosure.

According to Antec's web site, this enclosure can handle 1TB drives. All cables are included - eSATA and USB.

I chose Antec because it's the same brand as my PC case. This is the first time I've purchased a hard drive enclosure.

My motherboard already had an eSATA jack so I didn't need to install the included interface. It only took me about 10 minutes to install my old Seagate 720GB drive to this case.

No problems. FYI - The product description on Amazon needs to be updated.

It came out before larger drives were common so the product description only mentions 750GB.

The disk enclosure is exactly as advertised. But it isn't perfect:1) It's a bit noisy when it is on. It works well and is instantly recognized by XP and Vista computers. And it has no problem with the 1.5TB drive I installed in it. It has a fan and that keeps the unit cool but in a quiet room, the fan seems to be really noisy.2) It's a bit of a pain to install the disk. There are a lot of very small screws and many of them are a pain to get back in (especially when you have big fingers like I do).
